I drove down to Orem on Friday with my mom and Ari, all of us squashed into the front seat of my Cadillac with heaps of clothes in the back and a trunk full of dorm supplies. We got the tires checked on our way, then headed off! We checked in, I got my keys, and we started to unload G-Rex. (My car) A nice kid named Nick who is a Sophomore helped us. We got everything in with only two trips, thanks to some shopping carts they found a few minutes before and let us use. I am on the first floor which will be nice for taking stuff to and from, and being able to park right in front of my door (especially in the winter time). And my shower is huge because it's wheelchair accessible!
At first, not going to lie, I was thinking, Okay why am I leaving my big, nice room and comfy bed for this dingy little apartment an hour away from home?? But withsome a lot of Lysol, moving all my stuff in, decorating, and more cleaning, it started to feel like home. The room is pretty small, but I'm so happy to have my own! The desk is sturdy and the bed has tons of storage space underneath. I'm so happy with how it turned out, it is just how I imagined it! The green, blue, white color scheme worked very well and the desk area turned out to have a more pink scheme. While I was at an Orientation, my mom and Ari got some stuff at Walmart, then I got home to go all together to Target. We finally found the Long Twin white comforter I'd been wanting and got some last minute stuff for the bathroom. I dropped Ari and my mom off at Trax and then drove home alone to my apartment. Two of my roommates went home and the other was at dinner, so I had the whole place to myself! I am not very used to silence, so it was kind of weird. I was like, Well...now what should I do? So I turned the Broadway Cinderella Soundtrack on, arranged my clothes for the first week and wrote a "13 Things You Should Know Before Moving Into Your Dorm." Since I had been there approximately 11 hours and was now an expert ;)
My roommates are great!! One is from Vernal and super independent and has long, red hair. One went to Davis with me, and we were friendly acquaintances but never really got to know each other. I'm excited to become friends with her! She's supper nice and friendly. The third one came last so I haven't talked with her much, but she is majoring in Political Science with a world emphasis, so that's cool! She seems really easy-going and nice.
The next day, Sammy (the one from Vernal) and I drove to parking lot M25 to meet for another orientation. We got in a carpool to drive up to Provo Canyon. All the new Honors students were there and the leaders answered questions and told us what to expect from professors, the first day of school, Honors requirements and the semester in general. It was so helpful!
Then we played some really fun games and got to know each other. The Honors program has a good variety of students, jocks and nerds, to Illustration and Criminal Justice majors. <there were some cute boys as well ;) >
I am so excited about the Honors Program and ecstatic about my dance schedule! Dance Monday through Friday from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm!! Then I have Biology twice a week, Ancient Legacies, and Honors Colloquium 1 and 2. I am planning on getting a job, but I think I might wait to see how busy my schedule is and the workload that entails. I am taking 18 credits and school has to come first so I can keep my scholarship. Maybe I'll wait til next semester so I can have a few months to get used to college life.
I rode Trax home yesterday after Orientation because my dad was going to come down anyway to bring me some stuff and I wanted to be home for Back to School Priesthood Blessings and lunch at Coco's. I really missed Sunday meals at my grandparents' while I was in Europe, and now they're going to be even more special because I'm not home all the time, and free food! haha first thing I've learned at college: never refuse free food. Groceries are expensive! But it's going to be good for me to learn how to budget, how to be frugal and still eat healthy and at all! ;) My mom bought me a Crockpot and a Blender and I'm so excited to use them! If anyone has some cheap, yummy recipes, send them my way!
UVU is really a great school and the dance program is amazing and expanding. I can't believe all of the opportunities, experiences, events, resources, scholarships, programs and connections that UVU offers. College is so important and I'm already seeing all the new doors it's opening for me. This stage of life is so new and I can't wait to push myself, learn, grow, make new friends and become independent!
Freshman year here I come!!
