Wisdom from a Freshman

I have learned so much this semester. Probably the most I have ever learned in four months. From being an adult, making smart decisions, choosing to be faithful, communicating with my peers, being patient with roommates, cooking, cleaning, organization, choosing to be happy, focusing on the positive, what's really important in life, the basics of biology, understanding of ancient literature, how to be an effective teacher, choreographic tools, what kind of spouse and parent I want to be, deeper understanding of The Book of Mormon, the importance of following the commandments, how important family is, what kind of career I want to work towards, interior design decorating, dance history and basically the secret to life.
THE SECRET TO LIFE IS...
~Following the teachings and commandments of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
Specifically being truly converted to the gospel and focusing on improving your relationship with Jesus Christ every day
~Choosing happiness
Of course this is easier said than done. I realize some people face depression and require medication, therapy, etc. But most of us have the opportunity to choose happiness for ourselves, and all of us can find the happiness that comes from Heavenly Father and the Savior
~Exercise
Without dancing every day, I would be a little bit miserable. It helps relieve stress, makes your body healthy, gives you endorphins, the pros are endless!
~An outlet
For me, it's dance, but since this year my dancing was very connected to academics, I drew and decorated my room. I loved organizing and keeping my room looking cute and nice. It's something I did in my old room a lot. I'd change the desk decor to reflect the season, holiday or my mood. So doing it in my tiny dorm room made me feel at home, productive and happy. Surrounding myself with a beautiful, personal and clean space is very important to me.
~I learned this in ballet:    Creativity   Compassion    Consciousness
I could expound on this for a very long time, but I have a biology final to study for, so do with those three words what you will. They might be my new favorite words.
Salad left over from Cubby's and some rolls (I put in the oven) with chicken my mom brought me on her way to San Fran (via the Provo Airport) Mmmmm!
Some of the papers from this semester that I threw away today
Also, cinnamon roles don't hurt either-they may not be the secret, but they're definitely a joy of life!

HOLIDAYS

I was so happy the Mijatovic family came to visit! Even though we're not related my blood, we're family! My lovely grandparents The newlyweds invited us and their friends to see the lights at Temple Square, then enjoy some pie and hot cocoa at their adorable apartment, conveniently located right by the temple. Such fun! Thanksgiving with the Siskins ....And everybody else ;)
The world is big. It can be scary. It can be a lot of things, a lot of adjectives because well, it's the WORLD. But there is so much  good  in it. Make it your mission to notice the good in every day life. One thing that you can count on is the sun. It rises, it's warm, it gives light. Things we need. Things that are good, life sustaining, bright. Happiness is not a side affect of a perfect life. Waiting to be happy is just plain silly. Happiness wants to come into your life, in fact, it already has, so acknowledge and befriend it. Make it deeper and better with gratitude, consistence and effort. The good in the world is apparent and abundant, just like happiness. Focusing on the good doesn't mean we ignore the sad stuff going on, refuse to ever watch the news, or be ignorant of pressing matters around the world. It just means that you cling to hope, never give up, fight discouragement and let the good into your life. Let the good in, put some good out, let light radiate fr...
