Colds start out small; a little sniffy nose, tickley throat. Not a big deal. Then you have those symptoms for 2 weeks, so you think okay this cold will be gone soon. Then you get a headache and runny nose. After a week, you think winter would you let spring come already! You aren't sick enough to stay home from school, but you're still miserable at school. Then the cough comes, and you lose your voice at random times in the day. It hurts to swallow and you sometimes sound like a 80-year-old smoker. When your cold is at it's peak (at least you hope so) you forget you have announcements, so you run down to the other side of the school as fast as you can. When you get there you're out of breath and sound raspy and the whole school can hear it, yea! But then after the Wrestling game which you shivered and winced through, you go home and practice a high pitched instrument and stay up till 12 am doing Geometry. Oh the wonderful life of the average Junior High Schooler! *...
"I whistled and made nothing of going. But the village was very peaceful and quiet, and the light mists were solemnly rising, as if to show me the world, and I had been so innocent and little there, and all beyond was so unknown and great, that in a moment with a strong heave and sob I broke into tears. It was by the fingerpost at the end of the village, and I laid my hand upon it, and said, 'Goodbye, O my dear, dear friend!'      Heaven knows we need never be ashamed of our tears, for they are rain upon the blinding dust of earth, overlying our hard hearts. I was better after I had cried, than before--more sorry, more aware of my own ingratitude, more gentle."-Charles Dickens, Great Expectations   (p. 208)

Friendly places are familiar and inviting. They are places you wish you could be when you sit in class starting a huge test. And if your score wasn't as high as you would have liked, it's a place you know you can forget about it and that everything will be fine. It's a friendly place filled with family and friends. A place you may go everyday, weekly, or once a year. A place where you can be yourself and do fun things. Or relax and laugh. It may be warm in the winter and cool in the summer. There could be good food and tasteful decorating. Maybe it's simple and quiet, or exciting and loud. Everyone has there favorite place.. what's yours?

The biggest thing I have ever seen is The Eiffel Tower. When you get to the top, you can see the whole city of Paris. In the day, you can see the cheerful pastel colors of quaint apartment buildings and in the nighttime you can see the shimmering seine and glittering lights. For 10 minutes at the beginning of each hour, starting at 8 pm, the white lights flash. With the golden glow the tower always has and the sparkling bright lights, it looks unreal against the black night. Standing directly under it, you can see the intricate detail and amazing architecture and radiating glow of the Eiffel Tower. There are souvenir shops, Metro and bus stops, and crepe stands along the way. My favorite thing to get is Nutella crepes and Amarino gelatto.
What do we call this season? Is it a season at all? When winter is late, and still hasn't come, When spring is still just a hope buried in the ground. When the earth is ready for a blanket of white, Just waiting in a bleak, beige, dry stage. When Mother Nature's clock is broken And the Earth's axis is one degree off. When clouds don't offer a single drop of rain To wake the flowers up and add color to the landscape. But then the next day it starts to snow, Finally a season claims Utah as its own! (But I was hoping it would be Spring.)
