 Being in charge of New Beginnings was something I was so excited for! I still remember going to New Beginnings as an incoming beehive and it got me so excited to be in Young Womens. The parents brought different lights to represent their daughters and each beehive got a rose corresponding to a Personal Progress value color. It was such a fun and informative night. I wanted this year to be the same. We spent time deciding on a theme, speakers, musical numbers, decorations, committees and refreshments. It took time and planning, but it was so worth it! I feel so blessed to have had all the examples, resources and lessons in YW that helped me become a confident leader and planner. It ended up being just perfect and the spirit was definitely present. A few weeks ago, my ballet class was able to perform our variations. Christie, my amazing teacher, invited the parents to come to the last half-hour of class so we could put on a mini performance. We'd been practicing the variations for a couple months and we were excited to show how much we'd grown and practiced. I performed Kitri, Four Swans, Giselle peasant and Giselle adagio. These were very hard but so worthwhile! I loved all of them, especially performing them as the character and in front of an audience. Kitri is very fiery, fast and flirtatious. Christie felt this was my best one, so I did it as a solo and the rest in a duet (or quartet in four swans). These girls are some of my best friends and the time we have together in the studio is so fun, hard, exhilarating and magical. I absolutely love ballet and I feel so fortunate to have a studio with such an amazing atmosphere and teacher. Clytie girl forever!!  

Dance company has been a big part of my high school experience. I think it's so important to be involved in something extracurricular with your school. It's motivation, involvement, and a deeper and more fun way of learning that often relates more to your occupation. I made such great friendships that extended beyond dance and the studio. I learned how to work with others, how to follow and lead, how to choreograph, about college dance programs, about the elements of modern dance, and how to be a dancer who doesn't just entertain, but communicates something to the audience using movement. I learned to be unified with the other girls, and when and how to stand out. Uniqueness was valued in dance company. Progression, research, dedication, practice and kindness as well. I'm so grateful for the opportunities and experiences from DC. Concert was so much fun and so much work. I'm so happy with how my dance turned out and wonder at how it came to the finished prod...
