Nutcracker Auditions 2013

Nutcracker auditions are a bit of a big deal at our house. It's such a fun Christmas tradition to participate and I just love the "magic of Nutcracker" as Emma and I say :) I am also a perfectionist, so auditions can be stressful for me, but I also love them in a way. The excitement, rush, work, practice and thought that goes into them is fun and fulfilling and makes the performances even more worth it. Ruby was in my audition this year as well as the 34 other Advanced dancers at the studio. The audition was from 8-10 am but some of that time was for warming up before the judges even showed up. There were three judges again, one that is always there and two others that I recognized. We got numbers that Sarah made last year that stay on nicely.
The numbers were assigned based on where you stood at the barre during warm up so lucky me… I got number TWO! Going in the first group was hard, not going to lie. You have no time to watch and get the combinations concrete in your head. However, a few years ago we saw Christiana Bennett at a performance and we asked her for auditioning tips since we had auditions the next day. One of the things she said was to try to go in the first group. I just kept thinking about that when I got my number J The combinations were pretty hard and long but they were fun too. Smiling while you dance is a talent and my performance was all a blur but I think I smiled. Usually when I perform that just comes and I actually did have fun. Before the audition my stomach was full of butterflies and queasiness but once I got in there I just buckled down and did my thing. Ruby did well even with her knee and ankle problems. Ari and Freestone also tried out this year and I want sooooo badly for us all to make it!
We find out Monday 6 pm. I can’t wait!!! My first choice would of course be Doll, but that’s highly unlikely. I would also love to be Spanish or Reed Flute. Of course I’d be happy with any part because Nutcracker is so amazing, but it would just be a dream to get one of those parts J
Pray for the four Dopps who auditioned! If I don’t post by 8pm it’s probably because it’s bad news so feel free to drop by with kind words and hugs ;) Chocolate wouldn’t hurt either ;)
I LOVE BALLET!

Thanks Clytie Adams for this amazing opportunity!!!

The Help by Kathryn Stockett The Help is a great book for young adults and mature teenagers. It is education, funny and insightful. It is 444 pages, but a definite page turner. I rated it 5-stars because it is such a great book. It is basically about how unfairly African-Americans were treated in the 1950s and 60s. It changes perspective about every chapter, but it's fairly easy to follow along. It is from the point of view of 3 women from Jackson, Mississippi in the 1960's. Aibileen, Minny and Miss Skeeter are the narrators. I thought it was unique that it had more than one narrator and it allowed you to understand the story much better. Aibileen (my favorite character) is a black women who is "the Help" to Miss Leefolt. She is kind, wise and smart. Throughout the story she develops a strong bond between Miss Leefolt's little girl, Mae Mobley. Miss Leefolt is very strict and rather  oblivious to Mae Mobley. She doesn't really know how to raise her, so Aibil...

On the seventh day of Christmas

December gave to me....early out from school! Davis made their goal of getting $6,500 in 5 minutes during our "Dash for Cash" and earned a 'Christmas Officer Talent Show Assembly'. Otherwise known as 'Go Home After Four Shortened Class Periods.' So we got out at about 11:45 and Emily, Amy, Ruby, Emily M and I went to Fiiz and Bowman's to get stuff for friend gifts. I got some Lindt truffles. We went to Emily's for lunch, then Emily and I went to Farmington Station for a successful holiday shopping trip. Then we went and got her little sisters; Christina and Ellie, and I got Ptolemy and we went to Alexander's Bad Day at Kaysville Theatre. My mom ended up going too and taking Xanthe and Tizzy, who we hadn't had room for in Emily's car. It was such a cute movie! Then I took Ari and her best friend Ellison to Yogotogo. They're such cute girls. It's funny to hear their Junior High stories/experiences/slang. Oh those good ole' awkw...
