Another big life decision I'll make soon is whether or not to serve a mission.
In the Mormon church (the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) missions are optional. The choice to serve is entirely up to you. Church leaders highly encourage young men to go on a mission and they also really support young women in going. We are encouraged to pray about it and prepare. We don't choose where we'll go. You turn in your papers and a few weeks later you get a letter in the mail. The letter dictates where you'll spend the next 2 years (or for girls; 1 and 1/2 years) and what language you'll speak.
Right now I'm preparing spiritually to be ready to go on a mission, but the closer I come to 19 (the youngest possible age to go on a mission) the more I'll pray about it.
The only reason I'd even consider sacrificing 18 months of my life is because I know the church is true. I have a testimony of the things taught. I am sincerely happy in the gospel and I genuinely want to share that truth and happiness with others. I wouldn't give up 18 months of prime dance and college time if I wasn't firm in my conviction that the things taught are true and bring light and happiness into people's lives. I think it's a blessing that I have the opportunity to spend 18 months sharing something that is so right, so uplifting and so important to me! The sacrifice is so worth it! :) Visit www.lds.org to learn more....
PS: Nutcracker dress rehearsals went well! Except when I blacked out and accidentally mistook another girl for the one I was supposed to line up with. So basically, everyone was standing in four vertical lines and I was right in the middle, not in any line. I wish I could have seen my ninja traveling moves on the next steps as I nonchalantly got back into place...hahaha
Tomorrow...OPENING NIGHT!

Ninja traveling moves! Oh, you make me smile. I love watching you dance.
ReplyDeleteOops. Accidentally sent it too soon. I also wanted to say that I am touched by your testimony and these thoughts about a mission.
