I never realized how exciting the world of academia is. We live in a world that is largely fast-paced, self-absorbed, obsessive, material and fake. I know that's a pretty serious and cynical view to take, and I'm aware of the wonderful things and people existing right now. But really, next time you're standing in a line, count how many people are NOT looking at their phones. Or how many strangers make eye contact with you. Or measure people's attention spans. And get this- average 18 year olds have had 11,000 hours in the classroom, and 22,000 hours in front of the TV. Double the amount!!
Anyway, a lot of people might see as academia as boring or too formal. But I think once someone is exposed to really good teachers, interesting articles, quality texts, and new ideas-that all changes! Granted, the school system is set up to reward memorizing and it's fairly easy to cheat the system. There is not enough exploration, questioning, failing, experiencing and internalizing. Basically not enough curiosity and real understanding.
But if we didn't go to school, we wouldn't learn social skills, have anything to do, work hard

HOLIDAYS

I was so happy the Mijatovic family came to visit! Even though we're not related my blood, we're family! My lovely grandparents The newlyweds invited us and their friends to see the lights at Temple Square, then enjoy some pie and hot cocoa at their adorable apartment, conveniently located right by the temple. Such fun! Thanksgiving with the Siskins ....And everybody else ;)

Things that are good, life sustaining, bright. Happiness is not a side affect of a perfect life. Waiting to be happy is just plain silly. Happiness wants to come into your life, in fact, it already has, so acknowledge and befriend it. Make it deeper and better with gratitude, consistence and effort. The good in the world is apparent and abundant, just like happiness. Focusing on the good doesn't mean we ignore the sad stuff going on, refuse to ever watch the news, or be ignorant of pressing matters around the world. It just means that you cling to hope, never give up, fight discouragement and let the good into your life. Let the good in, put some good out, let light radiate fr...
