Places

California is warm, humid. It is cool mornings of dolphins emerging from salt water, and surfers catching the dusty turquoise waves. Montana is earthy, wild. It is shy deer, proud bears, and lazy buffalo. It is walking around in cowgirl boots to town, and riding horses through dry grass. San Fransisco is bold, fun. It is the golden gate bridge spanning your imagination and adventure. It is China Town; red, gold, jade. Paris is rich, beautiful. It is modern galleries, and centuries old cathedrals. It is walking, crepe in hand, to a new place that hundreds of years ago, a King walked too.It is watching the Eiffel Tower sparkle like a new constellation that was made just for you. Idaho is comfortable, familiar. It is sitting by your cousin roasting marsh mellows and listening to the river and the crickets.  Utah is different, scenic. It is hot summers, and snowy winters. It is looking at a pink smear of sky, glowing like a constant candle behind navy and ivory mountains. It is home.
I'm trying something new. Trying to imitate one of your favorite authors' writing styles. First: Shannon Hale  (Book of A Thousand Days, Goosegirl) My room was like a bird cage, sloppily draped with fabrics and bedecked with jewels in an attempt to resemble something appealing. However, you could search every single inch of those ivory walls and silver floors and find nothing but shadows and perhaps, if the maids were lazy, a little dust.  When I was little I pretended there was a hidden handle in the West Wall that led to a magic river. Every Thursday, I'd turn the golden handle and visit the azure river. It was one of the few places my childhood imagination thought up. My plan was to build a river just like the one I'd envisioned once I became queen. But it is my brother, not I, who shall inherit the throne, and besides, river-building is not a skill many Reztians know. So now, as I lay on my thickly quilted bed, I stare at my walls and wish desperately a window w
The Power of Six by Pittacus Lore, year released 2011. The Power of Six is 406 pages on nonstop mystery and adventure. The intended audience for this book is young adult, mostly geared toward teens. This book addresses the struggle to defeat the Mogadorians by the remaining Lorien numbers. The book is from the point of view of two different characters, so there are two settings. One is Santa Teresa, Spain. The other is various states, mostly Southern, in the United States. The main girl, Marina lives in a small orphanage in Spain. Since her setting offers her so much protection and coverage from Mogadoriens, her story couldn't take place in different setting. John is the other main character, he doesn't have a set home, he is mostly in a car for the whole book. The way he and his friends stay hidden, is by moving around so much, so his setting is important to the story. Marina is a quiet girl who is really from another planet, sent here for a purpose; to kill M
Caution: Major spoilers I had great expectations for this book, and I'm still not quite sure if it totally lived up to them. I recommend this book to anyone who can focus, enjoys classic and difficult literature, and who has a lot of time to read. This is mostly a summary of the book because the literary analysis is when I get to talk about my feelings for the book and my knowledge of the characters. Pip is the narrator and starts out as a young boy in the beginning of the book. His adopted father, Joe, is a kind blacksmith who shares a unique relationship with Pip that eventually turns into an artificial one as Pip matures. Mrs. Joe is Pip's sister who adopts him after their parents die when Pip is a baby. She is abusive, strict, hard, and cold. Biddy is Pip's girl friend who is wise, smart, and nice. Pip is forced to help a starving convict when he meets him in the marshes. He gets food to him and steals a file the convict uses to escape. Pip is racked wi
The Sound of Music The Sound of Music is my favorite Broadway show ever, and has been for eight years. I love the message, music, characters, setting and story. This show also brings back memories, and inspired me to be in plays. I love theatre, and this is exactly what a perfect show should be! The Sound of Music is an amazing musical set in Austria during World War 2. The movie version of this musical stars my favorite actress, Julia Roberts, as Maria. Maria is a positive, adventurous nun who leaves the convent for a while to nanny for a strict family. Captain von Trappe is a retired navy general who insists on treating the house like a ship. He calls his children with a whistle, makes them march, and is always on a strict schedule and harsh rules. At first, the children try to make Maria leave because they want to spend time with their father instead, but soon come to love her. Maria and Captain von Trappe fall in love and get married. But the Nazis want the family to join them,
