Pride and Prejudice

In Relief Society on Sunday(I can't believe I'm in Relief Society now) we talked about pride and being humble. I love my singles ward and how open people are, their comments always strengthen my testimony and add to the lesson. It's also pretty special to be in a ward where everyone is either in the same boat, has gone through what you're going through or wants to be your friend. Plus, basically all of us live in the same apartment complex. An apartment a few days ago had a jaor fiasco. One roommate went to the ER for stress-induced stomach ulcers, the other hurt her knee badly, it was just crazy! Sammy went to Walmart to get them some groceries and a card and flowers. They were so gracious and kind about it. The next day they sent us Thank you notes and told us we were answers to their prayers. Even though it was something really small, just being there and offering help or be willing to listen makes a huge difference when you're living alone. The ward has really r
The world is big. It can be scary. It can be a lot of things, a lot of adjectives because well, it's the WORLD. But there is so much  good  in it. Make it your mission to notice the good in every day life. One thing that you can count on is the sun. It rises, it's warm, it gives light. Things we need. Things that are good, life sustaining, bright. Happiness is not a side affect of a perfect life. Waiting to be happy is just plain silly. Happiness wants to come into your life, in fact, it already has, so acknowledge and befriend it. Make it deeper and better with gratitude, consistence and effort. The good in the world is apparent and abundant, just like happiness. Focusing on the good doesn't mean we ignore the sad stuff going on, refuse to ever watch the news, or be ignorant of pressing matters around the world. It just means that you cling to hope, never give up, fight discouragement and let the good into your life. Let the good in, put some good out, let light radiate fr

Things I've Learned in Ballet Class (at UVU)

The teachers here are simply amazing. I am looking at dance in a new light and using my muscles in a way that makes so much sense! The teachers here are masters at imagery and connecting what we do at barre to center work. On develope, think of your leg as a vine, growing up your leg. When going to passe from second, fifth or first, think of the standing leg pushing all the way down to Beijing. I don't know why, but thinking Beijing! when I hit the position helps me stabilize and remember to pull up and push down. Opposition in ballet is key. We TAKE ballet class. We don't just go or do. We say "I'm going to take class." So take it! Take initiative, make decisions, concentrate, extend, listen and improve. Lift up out of your pointe shoes to roll down. Understand human anatomy so you can really understand what your muscles are doing and how to connect, utilize and stretch them correctly. Think of horizontal, sagital and vertical planes when watching choreog

Apartment 51

My roommates are the best roommates of all time. We had a dance party the other day where Emmy introduced me to the 'nae nae song'. Can you believe I'd never heard it? I know. Emmy has quite the moves too. Gentry was doing laundry, which is an event because she actually does it the right way. Cold, warm washes; darks, whites, color, reds. The works. It took a few hours, so Emmy and I stayed up with her jamming out and chatting. We got a little depressed at how ugly our living room was because we'd had FHE at a guys' apartment earlier and their apartment was amazing. Framed vinyl records, leather sofa, big-screen TV, Ikea spice holders, quotes. We were put to shame. So we decided to put up a bunch of pictures on our wall. It now holds Gentry's towing ticket, pictures, The Living Christ, Proclamation to the Family, my Broadway tickets, a map of San Francisco and more. It definitely cheers up the room. We are going to hang a banner thing up too so we can hang temp

Navajo Nation

The Honors Program sponsors a bunch of activities they allow the students to sign up for. They are as simple as a paddle boarding excursion at night, to a four day road trip to Navajo Nation. I signed up for the Navajo Nation thinking that I wouldn't get in and that it was forever away. Then someone else couldn't go and I was informed it was in two days. I am the world's worst decision maker and I had a hard time deciding to go. I would miss 5 dance classes and a biology class, plus the possible opportunity to go to the BYU-Boise game and the singles ward. But I might never get the chance to go to Navajo Nation and I didn't want to regret the " what if's ?"  College is for being a little crazy, going out of your comfort zone and utilizing all your resources and claiming every opportunity. So I decided to go. I met the group at 6:55 am, realizing that I was about to spend 7 1/2 hours in a car with people I didn't know. What was I thinking?? But th
